In 1999 vraagt een Iraakse man politiek asiel aan in Duitsland. Hij houdt de geheime dienst voor dat hij als biochemicus op de hoogte is van de productie van biologische wapens in Irak. Dankzij informatie die hij van het internet heeft geplukt, weet de man de geheime dienst volledig om de tuin te leiden.
In Codenaam Curveball reconstrueert Pulitzer-prijswinnaar Bob Drogin de opeenvolging van gebeurtenissen die verband houden met de valse verklaring van de Irakees.
